Around 10:30 a.m. on a Tuesday morning, KOMU producers called me to come in early for my nightside reporting shift because of a train derailment in Polaski County, Mo., an hour and 45 minutes south of Columbia. I spent a few hours on the scene before coming back to turn a VO/SOT for the 5 and 6 p.m. shows and this package for the 10 p.m.

Another breaking news event called me to Sunrise Beach, Mo., an hour and a half southwest of Columbia where a lake house exploded. No one was injured during the explosion, but I stayed several hours talking to emergency crews and fire fighters to determine how a man's lake home turned to rubble that afternoon.
